Ok, so this one is kind of a personal one for me… In the years before my grandfather past away, he got really in to watching movies… Especially older movies from back in the day when he was still a younger man… Anyway… When he passed away he left his entire DVD collection to my Dad… And one of the movies that he left for me was the movie, Firefox (1982).
Written by: Alex Lasker (Doublecrossed) & Wendell Wellman (Double Impact). Directed by: Clint Eastwood (Rawhide) & Starring: Clint Eastwood, Freddie Jones (Dune), David Huffman (F.I.S.T.), Warren Clarke (Shhh! Top Secret), Ronald Lacey (Raiders Of The Ark) & Stefan Schnabel (Houdini).
“Yeah, I can fly it. I’m the best there is.” – A quote from the movie, Firefox (1982)!
This movie tells the story of how at the height of the cold war, the Soviet Union creates a new warplane that is not only faster, but is thought controlled!
Of course this makes the allies outside of the iron curtain really nervous… Their choice… retired Major Mitchell Gant (Eastwood), a former war plane pilot who had left the military after Vietnam and has decided to become a hermit due to the fact that he was taken as a POW and has almost crippling post war trauma!
But with his being the best most qualified person to go in to Russia, it will be up to Gant to over come his fears, and get in to a politically charged country, and steal this new jet, before the Soviets are able to use it against new countries they wish to invade!
Now I don’t know if it is just that I am getting older… I mean I enjoyed this movie when I was younger, but I just thought this movie was freaking amazing now! It is a truly fun thriller, and I think you might enjoy it as well!
