National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1 (1993)

by  |  August 29th, 2012  |  Comedy

These days it does seem like to some extent that comedies today have begun to rely on more disgusting forms of entertainment to keep people entertained.  A good example of this is the movie, Meet The Spartans (2008)!

Now Meet The Spartans is a spoof on many movies, (most directly the movie 300 (2006) and what was going on during that time in the entertainment industry! The other thing that this movie does is shows various bizarre and unnecessary innuendos, while telling the story of the 300 Greeks that went up against the huge Persian military in Ancient Greece!

You might be wondering why I mention this, well because simply put, there was another Spoof movie that was made in the early 90s that was just hilarious, and didn’t rely on low grade humor to entertain, that movie being, National Lampoons: Loaded Weapon 1 (1993)!

Written by: Don Holley, Tori Tellem & Directed by: Gene Quintano (Dollar For The Dead). Starring: Emilio Estevez (Repo Man), Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction), Jon Lovitz (Big), Tim Curry (McHale’s Navy), Kathy Ireland (Alien From L.A.), William Shatner (Star Trek) and Frank Rae (Rocky 2).

National Lampoons Loaded Weapon 1, a movie which is a hilarious spoof on buddy cop movies in the whole, tells the story of Jack Colt (Estevez), and Wes Luger (Jackson), partners in the police department, who despite their classic loud and annoyed Police Captain by the name of Captain Doyle (Rae), start investigating a plot to dope the nation through cocaine laced cookies that would be sold by the ‘Wilderness Girls’!

Oddly enough this movie despite running on the heels of the popularity of buddy cop movies of the 80s and early 90s, and which has an amazing cast of notable A-listers of the 80s and 90s, including besides those mentioned above, there also was: James Doohan (Star Trek), F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus), Charlie Sheen (Hot Shots), Phil Hartman (The Simpsons)… Just to name a few! And also besides the fact that this movie is a hilarious look at the Buddy Cop genre, it also has spoofed such other great movies as Silence Of The Lambs (1991), despite all of this, and despite the fact that this movie opened at number #1 in the box office during it’s opening weekend, this movie seems to have been mostly forgotten to the annals of movie history!

Also I thought that you might find this to be rather interesting, but James Doohan’s cameo was essentially that of his role as, ‘Scotty’ from, ‘Star Trek’ but as a Police Officer. Also Bruce Willis (Hudson Hawk) reprised his role as John McClane (from the Die Hard movie series) as a cameo for the movie, as a special favor for his brother, ‘David Willis’ who helped produce this movie.

Ultimately, if your looking for a fun hilarious spoof, with an amazing cast to enjoy, then you might want to check this one out, it is a fun one!
