Rising Sun (1993)

by  |  May 9th, 2012  |  Thriller

When I was a kid I had several authors that I enjoyed quite a bit (as a matter of fact I still enjoy the majority of them!) But one of the ones that I have been enjoying since I was a kid is, Michael Crichton!

Now since I was a kid I have either read or scene a lot of the books that he has written and the movies based on the books that he has written, including the entire Jurassic Park series and Sphere (1998) to name a few!

But one of the few that I hadn’t both seen the movie and read the book for, was Rising Sun (1993)!

Fortunately though I was able to change that a few weeks ago when my wife and I were looking for a new movie to enjoy… (and low & behold we found Rising Sun!)

Written by: Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park), Philip Kaufman (The Right Stuff) and Michael Backes (Spider Man 2) and Directed by: Phillip Kaufman. Starring: Sean Connery (Zardoz), Wesley Snipes (Blade), Harvey Keitel (From Dusk Till Dawn), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Planet Of The Apes), Mako (Rise: Blood Hunter), Ray Wise (Powder), Stan Egi (Come See The  Paradise), Steve Buscemi (Reservoir Dogs), Tatjana Patiz (Fire Ice & Dynamite).

In a

time in which Japanese corporations, commerce, and technology has started to really become a major player within the American way of life.  Rising Sun tells the story of how when a dead woman is discovered in a high level conference room in a powerful Japanese corporation, they will do everything to cover it up!

As a matter of fact, they use their influence with in the LAPD to put Lieutenant Webster Smith (Snipes), a Detective, with whom at one point was under investigation for having taken a bribe.  The other one being Captain John Connor (Connery), an officer who loves Japanese culture, and who up to the point where he is pulled back in for the investigation of this murdered woman, is on leave for causing a ruckus, and indulging in his obsession with Japanese culture.

Lieutenant Webster Smith (Snipes), Captain John Connor (Connery), and Lieutenant Tom Graham (Keitel) as they begin the interrogations.

Now as the investigation starts to really heat up, both Captain Connors and Lieutenant Smith will end up getting more then they bargain for in the world of the Rising Sun!

Now in my opinion, this PFS award nominated movie is just about as good as the book (and I loved the book).  So if your looking for a fun thriller to really sink your teeth in to, then I do recommend this one, it is a fun one!
