Nicolas Cage plays an rig worker drifter down on his luck when he chances into a scheme involving a sheriff, the sheriff’s wife (Lara Flynn Boyle) a whole lotta money and one crazy motherfucker called Lyle from Dallas, played by the one and only Dennis Hopper.
Cage gets mistaken for a hired killer and rather than turn down the large amount of money being offered, he takes the cash and writes a letter of warning to the person he’s supposed to kill.
Then on the way out of town, he runs into a dead body. And it all goes downhill from there.
Great flick, lots of twists and turns and surprises, and Cage takes it seriously, it totally works. It’s a fun and modern noir ride.
