t=”” width=”295″ height=”400″ />Christmas… What can I say? It is a great time of the year… And it got me to thinking that with Christmas 2011 coming up so rapidly that I would do a few recommendations for movies that in some way revolve around Christmas… Sort of my own personal salute to the Holiday!
So for my first round I thought that I would do a recommendation for the classic 2000 movie, Reindeer Games!
Written by: Ehren Kruger (Imposter) and Directed by: John Frankenheimer (Ronin). Starring: Ben Affleck (Hollywood Land), Gary Sinise (Forrest Gump), Charlize Theron (The Italian Job), James Frain (The Tudors), Clarence Williams III (The Mod Squad), Donald Logue (Blade), Danny Trejo (From Dusk Till Dawn) and Dennis Farina (Manhunter).
Reindeer Games tells the story of Rudy Duncan (Affleck), a small time car thief who was doing a two year prison term for stealing cars…
Now his cell mate Nick (Frain) is set to get out of prison roughly about the same time as the other, and both are really looking forward to leaving, (Nick so that he can get together with the girl that he met through correspondence, and Rudy so that he can go home and start a new life fresh…)
Now a few days before Nick and Rudy are supposed to leave Prison, Rudy ends up getting shived in the stomach during a food fight in the mess hall… So Rudy who is now grieving for his lost friend on the day that he leaves the Prison grounds decides to not ruin Nick’s girl friend’s Christmas… Or so the plan goes…
You see after spending some time with Nick’s girlfriend Ashley (Theron), it turns out that Ashley is connected with these psychotic gunrunners, and since everyone is convinced that Rudy is Nick, decide to forcefully recruit Rudy to rob a casino that Nick used to work at!
Now it is up to Rudy to play the part of Nick so that he can escape the clutches of these mad gun runners, and possibly the girl that is connected with them before Nick has to do something he regrets, that could ultimately land him back in Prison!
Now what I like about this movie, and what I thought made this a truly awesome b movie is a couple of things:
1. obviously the casting is great, what with Ben Affleck, Charlize Theron, and Gary Sinise, to name a few… But the story was also very fascinating, I mean speak of being identified as the wrong person!
2. Also another thing that I thought that I should mention here is just how Charlize Theron had said in an interview that this was, ‘the worst movie she had ever made’ sounds like a ringing endorsement to me!
3. This movie happens to be John Frankenheimer’s last theatrically produced movie that he ever made!
Well folks, if your looking for a fun Christmas/Action movie to really sink your teeth in to, then I do recommend this one, it is a fun one!
