River Phoenix in a scene from, 'Stand by Me'.

Back in the 80s and 90s River Phoenix was one of the most in demand young actors, having done such awesome films as Explorers (1985) with a young Ethan Hawke (Alive) and Bradley Gregg (Class Of 1999), Stand By Me (1986) with Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Corey Feldman (The Lost Boys), (This movie, he also was in the music video for the movie with Wil Wheaton and Ben E. King.) These 2 being just a selection of a few of the classic movies that Mr. Phoenix did back then.

With that said, unfortunately River Phoenix passed away in 1993 while he was still in the process of making the movie Dark Blood…

Well there is some good news for the legion of fans out there of Mr. Phoenix’s…

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

Dutch director (and it sounds like Phoenix family friend) George Sluizer (The Vanishing), who kept the footage from Dark Blood stored away for all of these years for safe keeping, is going to go ahead and finish the movie…

River Phoenix with George Sluizer on the set of the movie, 'Dark Blood' which set for release in 2012.

That’s right folks, Mr. Sluizer, (who has kept in touch with the family all these years,) has now re-edited the footage appropriately and is now working with Dutch production house, ‘Eye Works’, for a 2012 release…

For the small details that were not finished at the time of Phoenix’s death, (such as any voice over work) Sluizer has decided that he is going to use River’s brother ‘Joaquin’ for the voice over work, due to the fact that both vocally sound very similar.

As for the movie itself.  Dark Blood, tells the story of a man by the name of, ‘Boy’ (Phoenix) who while living on a Nuclear testing ground, while he waits for the end of the world to begin is suddenly confronted with a husband and wife (played by: Judy Davis and Jeremy Pryce) who are just trying to find shelter… Boy and the wife of that couple end up starting up a troubled relationship.

Now with Dark Blood set to be released  in 2012, I thought that you guys might enjoy a few segments from Mr. Phoenix’s impressive career, including:

The trailer for, Explorers (1985):

And last but certainly not least the music video that Phoenix did with Wil Wheaton and Ben E. King for Stand by Me (1986):
