According to EW:

Over the years, there has been word of many remakes of old Stephen King movies, such movies as The Stand, which we reported on earlier this year, as well as the classic movie It, along with others… The latest in the rumor mill though is Carrie (1976).

Stephen King’s mid 1970s novel, which was turned in to one of the most prolific and well remembered horror movies to grace the big screen… This movie also helped to propel the career’s of many such actors and actresses, such as William Katt (The Encore Of Tony Duran), Sissy Spacek (Big Love), Piper Laurie (Hesher) along with so many others!

This is what Mr. King had to say about the possibility of a new Carrie remake, “I’ve heard rumblings about a Carrie remake, as I have about The Stand and It. Who knows if it will happen? The real question is why, when the original was so good? I mean, not Casablanca, or anything, but a really good horror-suspense film, much better than the book. Piper Laurie really got her teeth into the bad-mom thing. Although Lindsay Lohan as Carrie White… hmmm. It would certainly be fun to cast. I guess I could get behind it if they turned the project over to one of the Davids: Lynch or Cronenberg.”
