Deadly Friend (1986)

by  |  February 14th, 2011  |  Horror

I have been a fan of the horror movie genre since I was real young(As a matter of fact the first horror movie that I saw I was no older then about 3 or 4 years old.) With that said, I am proud to admit to being a horror fan for the better part of 2 decades.

So you might be thinking that some one like me who has been a fan of the horror movie genre for more then 2 decades couldn’t get fazed by these types of movies… Well unfortunately even I have to admit to the occasional movie that has scared me. One of these movies that scared me when I was a kid was Deadly Friend!

Written by Diana Henstell and directed by Wes Craven (The hills have eyes, Scream.)   Deadly Friend tells the story of Paul Conway (Played by Matthew Laborteaux: Silk Stalkings) a genius who moves in to the neighborhood with his family and Robot. When he gets there he befriends Samantha Pringle (Played by Kristy Swanson: Buffy the Vampire Slayer) a girl next door type.

Paul (Laborteaux) Samantha (Swanson) and their friend BB.

The trio become fast friends and have some great times with each other… This was until one night when Samantha’s abusive father (Played by Richard Marcus: 24) pushes her down a flight of stairs!

In his grief at the loss of Samantha and the loss of his Robotic friend BB who had been destroyed prior to her accident. Paul decided to bring her back to life using parts from BB, making the ‘Perfect Cyborg.’

The new and improved Samantha...

At first everything seems to be going well until the Samantha Cyborg starts killing people, turning his best friend in to the ultimate killing machine!

Now Paul has to race against the clock to try and stop his deadly friend from killing again!

I did happen to see this again a year or so ago and it didn’t scare me like it did when I was a kid. But I still have to say that this is a great film!

Lastly I gotta say that what makes this a truly awesome B movie, is the story! An almost enduring story of what one boy will do when he looses those friends he cares about the most!

Check it out, you might find this quickly becoming a fav!
