Freeway (1996)

by  |  December 21st, 2010  |  Drama

Before her mainstream success in films like Legally Blond (2001) and Walk The Line (2005) Reese Witherspoon partnered up with Kiefer Sutherland (FOX’s 24) and The Lost Boys (1987) to grace us with this twisted and comical dark take on the ‘Little Red Ridding Hood’ film, called Freeway (1996).

Vanessa Lutz is a juvenile delinquent on the run. She’s trying to escape a life of dysfunction and despair. She’s headed to the only sanctuary she has… her grandmothers house. Along the way she’s impeded by a series of sensational events that make for a gut busting good time (if your have a dark sense of humor as I do). Enter Bob Wolverton.  Bob’s a charming and upstanding neighbor with a sadistic serial killer secret side whom to say mildly has met his match once he crosses paths with Vanessa.

Freeway is cared for by writer and director Matthew Bright, who also directed ‘Ted Bundy’ (2002). Freeway is a hysterically dark movie that left me saying WOW after seeing it. Not only is it filled with “I think a lil pee came out laughs” but, provides a surprising cast that includes Brooke Shields (whom aside from being a legendary model) also got her first acting role in ‘The Blue Lagoon’ (1980) and reappeared years later in ‘The Midnight Meat Train’ (2008). Brittany Murphy (who sadly passed away December 20th 2009) also rounds out this ensemble cast. Freeway is definitely one of my personal favorite movies for the laugh factor alone.

Here’s the trailer from Freeway!

Candace is a native Californian, born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. Aside from being a doting mother, she's also an award winning writer who's poetry has been featured in major publications. Her work as a painter and photographer has been featured in galleries around the country. It is Candace that brings a unique female voice to ABM and keeps all the guys in line.
