So these days when you think of western movies, you probably are thinking about, The Hateful Eight (2015), or the True Grit remake… Or possibly even the tv show, ‘Deadwood’ with Ian McShane (Hercules) and Timothy Olyphant (Scream)…
But for those of us born before 1990, alot of us used to watch the classic sphagetti westerns that Clint Eastwood (A Fistful Of Dollars) did, or Yul Brynner (Westworld) did when he did Magnificent Seven (1960)… Or even better, all of the classic John Wayne (Stagecoach) did!
And so I was talking to a friend of mine one day and we were talking about the modern day western movie seems like it is a lot more polished and has nice shine to it… Basically good, but dull… And how the modern western movie is missing that dirt and grit that really made the classics so amazing!
And you know what? I agree with him for the most part… I mean modern western movies are fun… They do have that element of fun to it… And they do have some sembelance of the western movies of old that made them great back then! But the truth is, is it is a polished version of something that was great! Think riding in your pick up and all the fun you probably had in it… Then going over to something that came this year… It is fun… But there is just something different… Something that makes you long for the classics!
In the end, in the battle between old western and new western, I am going to have to say that the old western is going to win out every time… The new stuff is good…. The old stuff is great! For more information on what I am talking about, please check out these trailers for both the new western movie and the older western movie!
