So tonight I was asked a question about exploitation films… And I realized that I knew how to answer it… And that the films were brilliant B exploitation films!
Now the question was, “I am getting in to exploitation and grindhouse films, and I was wondering if there was any movies you could recommend?” Well I won’t go in to all of the movies that I recommneded, but I will say that the majority of the movies that I did recommend were blaxploitation films!
Before I continue with this, let me explain that the reason that I mentioned specifically blaxploitation movies is because blaxploitation is a great sub-genre of explotiation films… And is one that I currently have a lot of expereince with! I also gave them a pretty good bikersploitation movie and revengeploitation film as well.
With that said though… Because this blog is about getting in to Blaxploitation… I will tell you why I love it!
First off… They really don’t make movies like this anymore… Of course unless it is in a paordy…
But either way… The first thing that I have to say is that some of these blaxploitation films are cheesy as hell… Honestly some of them are designed that way… A great example of this is Black Gestapo (1975). But in all truth the cheesy aspect of some of these films add to the fun!
These Blaxploitation films often times have great story lines, that keep you on the edge of your seat! Blackula (1972) is a great example of a fantastic edge of your seat horror blaxploiation movie!
Another great thing about these movies is they have some really great talent who would make a name for themselves in blaxploitation… And like a ton of other great a list talent of the 80s, 90s and new millenium, would go from doing some great work in blaxploitation, to doing other awesome movies! Yaphett Koto (Alien) and Pam Grier (Jackie Brown)… Who did a fun blaxploitation movie together, Friday Foster (1975) are a great example of this!
These are just a few of the reasons that these movies are great! If you are looking for a great sub-genre to really dive in to… You really can’t go wrong with a blaxploitation film!
