The Arrival (1996)

by  |  June 19th, 2015  |  Sci Fi

Hot Shots), is known for the roles that he played on Two And A Half Men, as well as, Anger Management

But before that, and mostly in the 1980s and 1990s, Charlie Sheen was definitely an A list movie star, having come from a Hollywood family that includes: Emilio Estevez (The Breakfast Club). and Martin Sheen (Firestarter)!

Now it is true that in the new millennium he has continued to be a mega star on TV and has continued working in movies, but, being a fan of the work that he has done in the new millennium as well as the career that he has had in the 1990s, I can honestly say that some of the best work that Charlie Sheen has done, is in the movies that he did in the 90s!

It is true though that I am a child of the 90s who grew up watching his career flourish and prosper in the 90s, but a lot of the 2000s has seen Charlie Sheen doing comedies on both TV as well as in movies, and although it is true that he also did similar work in comedy in the 90s, I found that in his more serious roles that Charlie Sheen was not only believable (as is most of the roles that I have seen him in,) but he is also real cool… I mean I could see him working on biker movies… Perhaps that is part of the reason why he is doing the sequel to, ‘Machete’!

The reason that I mention this is because there is another movie of his that I saw for the first time in years… and coincidentally is the first movie that I saw of his in the theater, and that is, The Arrival (1996)!

Written and Directed by: David Twohy (Waterworld), Starring: Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Crouse (House Of Games), Richard Schiff (The West Wing), Ron Silver (Time Cop), Teri Polo (Beyond Barriers) & Tony T. Johnson (Shadow Zone: The Undead Express).
The truth is, is that this movie has some amazing special effects, and some great talent attached to this movie, but the truth is, is that my favorite part of this movie is the story and the message attached to it!

You see in the 1990s Global Warming was really just at the beginning stages of becoming a problem for the public in the whole, and in this movie, the Earth is being invaded by an Alien Race from a dying star, and have come to Earth to terra-form it and take it over…
The way they do so is by creating human body suites for themselves and hide the greenhouse gases that they are shooting in to the atmosphere through being average everyday people and infiltrating nations all over the world, but pumping their greenhouse gases in to the atmosphere through 3rd world countries that have lax environmental laws!

One of the Aliens becoming one of us!

But the Aliens plans are about to have a kink in it when a paranoid Alien obsessed ‘Astronomer’, by the name of, ‘Zane Zaminsky’, who after discovering a signal that has come from another star system takes it to his bosses at JPL… The only problem is, is that they shut him out!

So Zane sets off to investigate and find out what is going on, but as he discovers more and more of the Aliens plans, the Aliens will do everything they can to discredit him or destroy him, before he can alert the rest of the world to his plans!

Zane Zaminsky (Sheen) as he is trying to destroy the Alien conspiracy!

Even though this movie is fictional, it is a fun one, and with this movie bringing attention to environmental problems, this movie was well worth my time, and if you try it, it might be for you to!
