Since I was a kid I have been enjoying such great Superhero movie/TV series as the, ‘Doctor Who’ series, the ‘Batman’ series, the, ‘Superman’ series, as well as such classics as the Bryan Singer (X-Men: First Class) ‘X-Men’ movies, and even Joss Whedon’s, The Avengers (2012)…
…I got to thinking that Superheroes themselves generally seem to get a lot of attention, and oft times their sidekicks tend to get less recognition, so I thought that I would do a blog for the, ‘Top 10 Sidekicks’:
10. Rose Tyler (Billie Piper)
If you have seen the new Doctor Who series on the BBC, then you will know who she is, but if not then you probably won’t know who she was. Rose Tyler (Played by: Billie Piper) was a pretty awesome character who saw the Doctor through two incarnations (When the Doctor was played by Christopher Eccleston (The Others), and when David Tennant (Fright Night) took over as, ‘The Doctor’). As far as I am concerned, she is still the best companion that any of the new Doctors have had and since she left the show, the Doctor hasn’t been the same
In what ever incarnation that Iron Man is in… Rather it be in cartoon form or on the big screen, Jarvis is a bad ass artificial intelligence that helps Tony Stark create Iron Man, and helps him (and eventually the, ‘Avengers’) in their fight against the forces of evil!
8. Joan Watson (Lucy Liu)
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, I know that Elementary isn’t exactly a, ‘Superhero’… But his powers of deduction in the new TV series borders on the, ‘Superpower’ and thus, since I am a fan of this new series, I thought it worth mentioning Lucy Liu in the role of, ‘Joan Watson’ for the amazing work that she has done in keeping Sherlock (Played by: Jonny Lee Miller) in check and helping him solve the crimes that he solves.
7. Pike (Luke Perry)
I know most people didn’t like, Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1992)… I don’t know why… I mean it had great talent in the movie, a fun script with hilarious moments to it, and it also had the appropriate amount of, ‘Cheese’ to it… With that in mind, and being that I am a fan, I thought that I would mention Luke Perry’s role as, ‘Pike’ having complemented Kristy Swanson (Deadly Friend) as, ‘Buffy’ in Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1992) very nicely (i,e. preppy rich white girl killing Vampires with her grunge sidekick)
Batman’s long standing sidekick is pretty awesome, I mean he was great in the mid 90s, in the animated series in a more serious role, he was also great in the more comic side in the 6os TV/Movie version of Batman as well!
5. Short Round (Jonathan Ke Qwan)
This little guy who went on an adventure with Indiana Jones (Played by: Harrison Ford) in, Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom (1984) was an awesome sidekick, who had a knack of getting out of danger that bordered on the, ‘Superpower’, and thus I am glad to put him in this list!
This kick-ass butler who took care of Bruce Wayne since he was a kid, and thus helped him out as Batman as well deserves to be mentioned here because lets be honest… This butler kicks ass!
3. Bucky Barnes
This sidekick was played by Sebastian Stan (The Apparition) in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), and the truth is, is that in that movie, his character hasn’t reached the epic level that he has as, ‘The Winter Soldier’ in, ‘The Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heroes’. In that he has already become a kick ass former brainwashed assassin, turned hero seeking redemption… Thus he is definitely worth mentioning!
2. R2D2/C3PO (Anthony Daniels & Kenny Baker)
These guys rock! What can I say? With out them, The Galaxy would still be in the hands of the, ‘Galactic Empire’ and thus their contributions to the Star Wars Universe are ones that can never be forgotten!
1. Connor (Vincent Kartheiser)
Angel’s son, and short time Sidekick in the early to mid 2000’s Horror/Drama TV series, ‘Angel’… this guy rocks! What can I say? I mean his character never got the chance to really do much, but he had a lot of promise, and the short time he was on, that show got better and better!
Well folks, in the end, I suspect that you might be scratching your heads, and wondering why I didn’t choose more of the more commercial Sidekicks but I like these guys, and if you think about it… They really do rock!
