Well in accordance with the Highlander mantra, “There can be only one!” And Ryan Reynolds is it.
In the new Highlander franchise revival, Ryan Reynolds will get the chance to play Conner MacLeod. The role was formerly owned by Christopher Lambert int the 80’s cult Sci-fi favorite Highlander.
No plot details as yet. But we can say that since it’s been 12 whole years since the last Highlander: Endgame was in theaters, a remake is long overdue and quite frankly, very refreshing.
In the earlier films, the plot consisted of the Immortals running around chasing each other to have a “Gathering” aka sword fights and cut each others heads off. Stealing their “Quickening” aka essence, until only one remains.
Remaking a franchise is like old hat for Reynolds who helped launched the non-scary ‘Amityville Horror’ remake franchise for children back in 2005. Oddly enough, Ryan Reynolds is one of the few actors who can easily slide between Super Hero Universes with his Green Lantern from DC Comics one minute, and then Dead Pool (another upcoming franchise for Reynolds) from Marvel Comics the next minute!
Not even Chris Evens has been able to pull this feat off as yet. (If you read the last paragraph like Jerry Seinfeld, it’s much funnier and more entertaining.)
As for a director, the Highlander remake will be directed by none other than… Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. Fresnadillo directed 28 Weeks later which starred Jeremy Renner (aka Hawkeye for The Avengers) back in 2007.
