Safe (2012)

by  |  June 26th, 2012  |  Action/Adventure

Jason Statham (Crank).  Jason Statham is a guy that could be said to be the next generation of such historically famous actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger (Red Sonja), Sylvester Stallone (Cobra), and even Bruce Willis (Hudson Hawk), to name a few of the classic 80s action stars! I mean this guy looks and acts like an 80s star, but fits in with modern day cinema.

The reason that I mention this is that recently I went to see the movie, Safe, at the Theater (A first for me when it comes to watching a Statham movie in the theater).

Written and Directed by: Boaz Yakin (Remember The Titans). Starring: Jason Statham (The Expendables), Catherine Chan (Aftershock), Robert John Burke  (Thinner), James Hong (Big Trouble In Little China), Chris Sarandon (Fright Night), Anson Mount (Straw Dogs), Sándor Técsy (Burn After Reading), Joseph Sikora (White Collar).

Safe is a fascinating story of redemption, mixed in with the lack of morality seen within the corrupt and the criminal element!  What I mean by this is that a former Police Officer by the name of Luke Wright (Statham), who is heading down the path of self destruction, (starting with going from being a Police Officer to becoming a Cage Fighter/front man for the mob), and eventually landing himself on the streets is about to get a second chance to redeem himself, when a special little girl gets in trouble with the Russian Mob, one of the Chinese Triads and the NYPD!

You see this little girl by the name of, ‘Mei’ (Chan) has a special gift for numbers, and for years this little one has been under the control of the Chinese Triad that is being led by, Han Jiao (Hong).  Now at one point this little girl has been asked by Han to remember various segments of a code to a, ‘Safe’.

Mei ends up escaping from her captors when the car that she is traveling in is hit hard enough to knock just about everyone out.  Now that Mei knows the situation with her mother back in China, Mei decides to escape from her imprisonment with Han and his New York goons… The only problem is that the longer she is freed, the more people want to find her and gain the information that she has! (including the Russian mob, and some seriously corrupt NYPD Officers as well!)

It begins to look like this girl maybe in serious trouble, until she meets Wright in a Subway Station, and seeing an opportunity not just to gain redemption for all of his past misdeeds by risking his life to protecting this girl, but also to maybe get the justice that he needs by taking on the mobsters that ended his life!

Mei (Chan) with Wright, (Statham).

Now I did want to mention that probably the best element of this movie is the story (it is true that the special effects, action and script were a lot of fun, and the acting in this movie was as always quite phenomenal), but the story was just amazing! I mean in essence the story is about a fallen warrior that tries to get his redemption for the sins of his past by trying to protect this girl, and he also tries to get justice for the life that he lost by taking on the mobsters that took that life away from him!

Well folks, if your looking for a fun kick ass action packed movie that has a great story line, and in the end will make you feel good, then check out this one, it is fun!
