Scorched (2003)

by  |  February 14th, 2012  |  Comedy

There is a type of B Movie that I always tend to find to be rather fascinating, and that is a type of movie that show cases A list talent, in what could be best described as a B Movie!

A few examples of this being:

1. ‘Magnolia’ – Now I never saw this movie myself, but from what I understand about this movie from talking to people, is that Magnolia despite having the likes of Tom Cruise (Mission Impossible series), William H. Macy (Pleasantville) and Julianne Moore (Hannibal) etc… It could still very aptly be considered to be a B Movie!

2.  ‘Scorched’ – Written by: Joe Wein (Goldfish), Max Wein (The Cure) and directed by Gavin Grazer (Frost/Nixon).  Starring: Alicia Silverstone (Blast From The Past), Rachel Leigh Cook (She’s All That), Woody Harrelson (Zombieland), John Cleese (Monty Python And The Holy Grail), Paulo Costanzo (40 Days And 40 Nights), David Krumholtz (Numb3ers) and Joshua Leonard (The Blair Witch Project).

Scorched tells the story of how 3 unhappy bank employee’s at a small town desert branch are fed up with their lives and being under the thumb of their arrogant boss Rick (Leonard)… Now the 3 bank employee’s, Sheila (Silverstone), Woods (Harrelson) and Stu (Costanzo) all also have other reasons for robbing the bank.

1. Sheila wants to get back at Rick, after he dumps her for the woman that Rick had been cheating on her with, and decides that the best way to get even is to rob the banks. So she hatches a scheme to rob the vault….

2. Stu and his friend Max (Krumholtz) are just fed up with being small time nobodies and decide to hatch a plan to rob the safe and cash drawers.

3. Woods decides that to get even with a vindictive and cruel uber-rich duck hunter by the name of Charles Merchant (Cleese) who had years earlier killed the mother of a duck that Woods had taken in as a pet, was robbing merchant’s safety deposit box!

The only problem is that they decide to rob their bank on the same day, and none of them knows about it!

The 3 little schemers at work!

Also during this time Stu and Max’s friend Shmally (Cook) decides that like Woods that she would also like to get revenge on Charles Merchant for the crummy ads he advertises on his infomercial! To do this, she enlists the aid of her deadbeat friend Doleman (Marcus Thomas).

In the process of these people committing these crimes, and the hilarious consequences of each one of their actions in the process, all of these people lives and the lives of the people close to them will change in a way that can only best be described in what Doleman says, when he says:

I eat cheese. ~Doleman

Now personally I could  say a lot about this movie and all of it would be true, the cast did an amazing job, the story was well crafted and the truth is, is that the entire movie was utterly awesome, with a fair amount of humor in it as well! But the truth is is that what amazes me the most about this movie is that not a lot of people seem to have heard of it! So if you get a chance, check it out… You might like it!
