Seeing that for the first time reminded me of the Kali sequence from THE GOLDEN VOAYGE OF SINBAD. Gotta believe there was some inspiration derived from Ray there.

Thanks dude! Yeah I am right there with you when it comes to the work that Ray Harryhausen did on this movie, it was nothing but superb, and gave an air of authenticity to the movie that is lacking in some of the special effects that I have seen movies today.

Always loved these movies. Ray Harryhausen’s animation and effects are truly groundbreaking. Even with today’s computer generated creatures looking so life-like, I still think there’s a bigger sense of real danger from the stop-motion characters. You just feel they’re physically there – they have weight to them.
