The re-released version of, 'The Lion King' has won the number #1 spot in the box office this weekend!
That right folks, according to EW:
When The Lion King was released back in 1994 this movie wowed kids all over the world as well as adults! This movie had some amazing star power attached to it, including, Matthew Broderick (Max Dugan Returns), Jeremy Irons (Dead Ringers), James Earl Jones (The Star Wars series), Nathan Lane (Iron Weed), Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) along with so many others!
With that said, recently Disney re-released the movie with a major technological upgrade! And the good news is, is that the re-release of The Lion King has made it in to the number #1 spot for the weekend having pulled in $29.3 million in the box office for the weekend!
At number 2 we got, the Matt Damon (The Bourne movie series)/Kate Winslet (Titanic) movie, Contagion which is doing real nicely in its second week having pulled in $14.5 million in the box office over the weekend!
At number 3 we got the Action/Drama, Drive which did pretty nicely for it’s opening weekend, having pulled in a solid $11 million in the box office over the weekend. At number 4 we got the little engine that could, in the movie, The Help, which has held it’s spot very nicely, having pulled in $6.4 million in this weekends box office! And at number 5 we got another weekend opener, Straw Dogs, which pulled in a respectable $5 million in the box office over the weekend!
With that said, it looks like the King of the Jungle has taken the thrown as the King of the Box Office for this weekend!
In summation:
1. The Lion King 3D = $29.3 Million
2. Contagion = $14.5 Million
3. Drive = $11 Million
4. The Help = $6.4 Million
5. Straw Dogs = $5 Million
