The Italian Job (1969)

by  |  February 16th, 2011  |  Action/Adventure

When I was in my early 20's I first heard of this great little film called The Italian Job (with Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron & Donald Sutherland.) So I went ahead & rented it with some buddy's of mine.

Now I thought this movie was great with its kick ass special effects & awesome car chases! Little did I know though, at the time. This little jem… This great action extravaganza was actually a remake of the 1969 movie of the same title starring legendary actors Michael Caine (The Dark Knight) and Benny Hill (The Benny Hill Show.)

What I do feel distinguishes this movie from the rest is that from what I have seen of movies from back then, is that it was the first movie that I had seen that has those truly spectacularly cool car chase scenes in it (at one point the main players in the film are actually being chased in mini coopers through a sewer in Italy!)

I happened to discover this fact a few years later when talking to my wife about old school movies. that there actually was an original movie and since I loved the remake I resolved myself to see this movie!

Which when I did finally get to that one I gotta say that, the orginal was better then the remake! Now thats not to say that the remake was bad, as a matter of fact, I think the remake is great! But the original is better

because it gives a visually historic representation of that time period (Which thats allways fun.) But you can truly see how that style of the car chase has developed over time. In my opinion I thought that actors in the original movie were also funnier then their counterparts for the remakes. All in all, in my opinion, all though the remake is good, I gotta say that the original is better!

Michael Caine and Noel Coward.

Written by Troy Kennedy-Martin (Kelly's Heroes) & directed by Peter Collinson (Ten Little Indians) This movie tells the story of the swingin hipster Charlie Croker (Caine) A debonair con man at the end of the swingin 60's who along with his band of criminals seek to hijack a gold shipment on one of the most busiest street in Italy with results that are both visually entertaining as well as quite humorous!

All in all what I feel makes this movie a truly Awesome B Movie is that this movie ranks up their in my top 10 heist movies now as it is both funny & extremely action packed!

If you are looking for a fun little action flick to watch I recommend you try this one! You might like it.
