Details are still forthcoming, but we just learned about the passing of great filmmaker Peter Yates. Yates became a prolific filmmaker over the years for his work in film, perhaps most notably for his collaboration with “The Cooler King” himself, Steve McQueen, on the film “Bullitt” in 1968. He was nominated for 2 Academy Awards in 1979 for his coming of age film, Breaking Away starring Dennis Quaid and Daniel Stern, and again in 1983 he was nominated for 2 more Academy Awards for The Dresser. Yates’ film The Friends of Eddie Coyle was mentioned as Ben Afleck‘s favorite heist film this past week, along with The Hot Rock topping ABM’s own Matthew Dowling‘s list for favorite heist film.
Some highlights of films directed by Peter Yates…
Year of the Comet (1992)
An Innocent Man (1989)
Krull: The Conquerer (1983)
Breaking Away (1979)
The Deep (1977)
