I gotta admit it folks, I saw this series out of sequence. I first was introduced to the Sleepaway Camp franchise through it’s sequel. I loved the sequel. I thought it had a fun story, a great cast, and some awesome campy special effects! Now to make matters worse I went so far and picked up Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenaged Wasteland (This was back during the end days of VHS and I couldn’t find a VHS copy of it!)
When I finally made the transfer to DVD I resolved myself to the fact that I gotta complete this series! I gotta see the movie that started such a great franchise! So I started on the hunt for this. When I finally was able to pick up Sleepaway Camp. I was not disappointed! Actually this movie was so good, right after I saw the first one I had to watch the entire series from beginning to end!
Written and directed by Robert Hiltzik, Sleepaway Camp begins the legend of the Angel of Death: AKA Angela Baker (Felissa Rose.) After the loss of her father and sister, she gets sent to live with her slightly unbalanced Aunt Martha (Played by Desiree Gould) and over protective cousin Ricky (played by Jonathan Tiersten.)
So off they go to Camp Arawak, a camp where the kids play games, particpate in camp activities, tease, taunt and torture their fellow camper!
Almost immediately after the children arrive at the camp, a series of murders begin to occur! Now as the body count rises everyone begins to wonder who is killing everybody at this once quiet little Sleepaway Camp!
What makes this an Awesome B Movie? A great story that has carried on now for nearly 30 years!
