I recently came to discover Deranged: Confessions of a Necrophile (1974) at a special double feature Matthew Dowling and I attended for writer/director/actor Alan Ormsby that was showing at Quentin Tarantino's New Beverly Cinema.
Now I am embarassed to admit this to all you B Movie fans, but I didn't know Alan Ormsby's films all that well. Before going to this tribute for him I had only seen Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things! I gotta say, though, that since seeing Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things, Deranged and Death Dream (another Ormsby classic) that his body of work is just as truly awesome as some of the other legendary classics, such as Hammer Films Dracula series with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing!
Deranged: Confessions of a Necrophile tells the story of Ezra Cobb (played by Robert Blossom) a lonely mentally unbalanced man living about as far out in the middle of nowhere that a man can live. During this time he is living with his ailing heavy-handed religous mother (played by Cosette Lee). When Ma Cobb passes on, the already mentally unbalanced Cobb tips over and begins a twisted and deranged jou
rney that will lead him down a path of depravity, debauchery, and death!
Having been able to see Deranged on the big screen in an original print was a real treat, but also cool, was watching it with legendary B Movie Actor Clu Gulager (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2, Return of the Living Dead) who also happened to be in the audience that night!
If you're looking for a truly twisted, fun serial killer movie. This is it folks! A very graphic representation, this movie holds all the elements that a serial killer movie needs: Murder, mayhem, a body count! (It was pretty closesly based on the true life events of infamous serial killer Ed Gein) All this truely makes it an Awesome B Horror Movie!
