What makes Silent Rage an Awesome B Movie? Chuck Norris. What can I say? The guy really does kick some ass! That, and Silent Rage also just so happens to be the first R rated movie I ever saw in the theater. My mom maintains it was Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979), but I DO NOT recall it being so. I think she’s thinking of someone else.
Silent Rage is Chuck Norris’ foray into SciFi, which in itself is cool. But, Ron Silver as the mad scientist, who creates a Frankentein-esque, killing machine, out of one of his deceased patients, is just pure gold! Due to the deranged temperament of his deceased patient, events are set in motion that will ultimately, of course, pit Chuck Norris against the unstoppable maniac.
I took the liberty and watched this recently, a new, and to be honest, the script by Joseph Fraley, and direction of Michael Miller still holds up! It is a well crafted horror film.
Moments before Chuck Norris takes on a whole biker gang, I recall there’s a scene where a biker chick attempts to seduce Norris’ deputy (Stephen Furst), by exposing her naked bosoms. That’s when my mom yells, in a packed theater… “Oh Matt cover your eyes! You’re not supposed to see this!” And puts her hand over my face! And everyone in the theater laughs at the little 8 year old trying to see some T&A… It would be 13 years later, in 1995, when I would work with Stephen Furst on TV’s hit Scifi series, Babylon 5.
I didn’t know it then, but Silent Rage would become an influential milestone in my own journey down the B Movie highway.
